Now, in Trials of Life, originally published in 1990, he completes the story by revealing how animals behave – and why. For the 2022 edition, professor Matthew Cobb of the University of Manchester read the entire book to ensure that the text retains its accuracy in light of the many advances in our understanding of animal behaviour.
