Emerging from the doldrums of the territory-style wrestling in the United States, pro wrestling entered its golden era in the 1980s and 1990s. It quickly moved from local arenas to selling out huge stadium events, capturing a global, evergreen fanbase along the way.
While trading cards have been around for centuries, the wrestling trading cards of the 1980s and 1990s have been steadily causing a stir in the collectors’ world. Known to many as simply ‘the Hobby’, this book recaptures the pop-culture icons, movie stars, villains, good guys and everything bizarre and beautiful about wrestling trading cards. Learn how the wrestling sticker scene saved the entire sticker-album industry and how one wrestling legend’s amateur photography skills launched wrestling trading cards into the wonderful collecting hobby of today.
Wrestling figures, merchandise and countless hours of video entertainment have been rediscovered, but now it’s time for wrestling trading cards to be propelled into the limelight as Kevin Williams explores one of the last great collectors’ scenes the world is yet to tap into. What ya gonna do when wrestling trading cards of the 1980s and 1990s run wild on you?
