Opis

In the beginning, there was Genesis. A band created out of nothing at Charterhouse public school in southern England in the Sixties, it was made up of a group of posh, talented kids with no great desire for fame, but who just wanted a chance to write good songs for other people. When no one showed any interest, they managed, with assistance from Charterhouse alumni and record producer, Jonathan King, to record their first LP in 1967. It sold just 649 copies. In this independent, beautifully illustrated publication, music writer and journalist Pete Chrisp tells the remarkable story of how a few young boys from Surrey public schools and London grammars were able to evolve, almost unwittingly, despite constant schoolboy bickering and regular line-up changes, into one of the most creative and influential bands in progressive rock. And how, in the early Eighties, they transformed themselves once again, from prog-rockers to global pop stars, selling an estimated 150 million albums worldwide and (as if that weren’t enough) producing two of the planet’s most successful solo artists – Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins. How a little education can go a long way. From Charterhouse in Surrey to an institution into which they were inducted in 2010 – America’s Rock & Roll Hall of Fame – the fascinating story of Genesis is nothing short of a revelation.
